Over
consumption of alcohol other than being a health issue has also turned into a
social evil over the years. People in deppression drink profusely and would
raise hands on their family members or others without any control. In india
espicially with the growing population and inability to get proper jobs has
made the lives of people worse. So men would revert to drinking so as to get
their mind off the matter. But afterwards would hurt their family and do many
crazy things without any control. This matter is becoming from bad to worse
over the years of underemployment problem.
Its
the responsibility of the society itself to prevent people to go into
alcoholism or help the people out of it. Or else if the people themselves are
convicted, they can help themselves out of it using steps. Those people can
follow these steps to get rid of it :-
- Step 1 -- COMMIT NOT TO DRINK
Recovery from alcohol
addiction is a gradual process and no one can stop drinking alcohol overnight
and be normal with it. The biggest problem with alcohol addicts is that they go
into a state of denial. Even as they have health issues, they wouldn't admit it
at all and would make excuses and drag your feet. First thing you must do is
that come into terms with the problem and discuss with anyone close to you
about the problems you're facing and also that you want to get rid of it. This
helps you prepare mentally for the process.
- Step 2 – SET GOALS
AND PREPARE TO CHANGE YOURSELF
Once
you have decided that you want to change, set yourself realistic and specific
Goals,
it'll the best start to the process.
1.
Decide if you want to get rid of it at once or over a period-
if you decide to cut it back over a period, set up goals and decide how many
drinks you'll allow in a day and decide not to drink at all at specific days of
the week.
2.
Set up a target date- set a particular date up on which
you'll stop drinking or drink less.
3.
Get rid of the temptation by removing all visible alcoholic
beverages out of sight in your office or home.
4.
Tell your friends and family that you're trying to control
the alcohol consumption so that they would cooperate with you.
5.
Learn from the past and think about the ill-things that
happened when you drank alcohol uncontrollably and decide not to do it again.
Some
people trying to control their addiction themselves may develop withdrwal
·
anxiety and restlessness
·
lack of sleep and trouble concentrating
·
elevated heart beat and blood pressure
These
symptoms are very common in people trying to get rid of alcohol and thus people
mustn't panic and deal with it safely, wait for it to dissappear a few days or
else take madical help. In severe cases some people may suffer from stroke,
hallucinations, seizures and convulsions and high fever and these have to be
dealt with immediately as they may be life threatening sometimes.
·
STEP 4 – TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR THOUGHTS
While you're on your way
to recovery from the addiction, visits to rehab or professional help will be recommended so as
to control your thoughts and find new meaning in life which has no place for
alcohol in it.
If you started drinking because of some
personal issues , you may visit some counselor so as to help yourself out of
the situation.
Get yourself into some sport which will
divert your mind away from your problem and convict yourself not to start over
again.
Don't ever be alone, talk to your
family and friends, go for a vacation so as to vacate your mind and busy
yourself till your mind is stable.
If
you carry on the specified steps religiously, you may help yourself out of the
evils of alcohol and lead a better life.
